Material KRS-5 (Thallium Bromide-Iodide)

KRS-5 - transparent in wide spectral range from 0.6 microns (red, visible) to 50 microns (far IR). KRS-5 material - transparent in wide spectral range from 0.6 microns (red, visible) to 50 microns (far infrared IR). KRS-5 crystalline material is used for KRS-5 prisms, IR KRS-5 windows and KRS-5 lenses, where transmission in the range (0.6 - 40) microns is desired. KRS-5 crystallizes by the sealed-ampule Stockbarger technique. KRS-5 material has a tendency to cold-flow and changing its shape with time. KRS-5 crystals is only slightly soluble in water but can be dissolved in alcohol, nitric acid, and aqua regia.
